Confronting Demographic Development

The aim of the WAALTer project organised by the Braunschweig Vocational Training Centre (BBZ) of the Braunschweig-Lündeburg-Stade Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Small Businesses is to build a bridge between skilled crafts, care and science. Over the next three years, experts will be working on the development of further education and training opportunities that provide trade participants from the fields of skilled crafts, trade and care services with knowledge on demographics and the needs and requirements of the older generation.

A number of research efforts concerning the topic of "Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)" have been successfully carried out over recent years. The WAALTer (“Weiterbildungsangebote für AAL-Technologien erfolgreich realisieren” – ‘Successfully Implementing Further Education and Training Opportunities for AAL Technologies’) project aims to remove the currently existing discrepancy between the specialist use of AAL technologies and their application in day-to-day life. It does so by developing curricula, learning content and learning techniques that also facilitate the everyday use of these technologies. The WAALTer project is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) from 2011 to 2014.

With its so-called “+raum" project, Wolfsburg AG is running its very own pilot project that provides an insight into age-appropriate living facilities and corresponding services within a living environment.
