High-Performance and Modular Battery Systems

The "MoBat" research project examines the influence of fast charging on the ageing of batteries used in the electric power systems of vehicles and on charging technology that has been automated in consideration of safety aspects.

Conducting research for range and safety

Achieving a range of 500 kilometres with a charging time of ten minutes is the ambitious target of the "MoBat" (Modular High-Performance Battery Systems in Connection with Safe Fast Charging Technology) project, which was launched at the end of 2016 and is being implemented by researchers from Clausthal University of Technology and the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute at the Battery and Sensor Technology Test Centre of the Lower Saxony Energy Research Centre (EFZN) in the German town of Goslar in cooperation with Wolfsburg AG. The main focus of the project is placed on investigations on the influence of fast charging processes on the ageing of batteries and on charging technology that is automated in consideration of safety aspects.
